Jolivet to Scottburgh

Of course, my original post from the Umkomaas day (Day 8) of the Old Mutual joBerg2C was a cop-out. I mean, one of the most celebrated day’s riding on the planet and I just post Kelvin Trautman’s images to cover for me?

Hazeldean Farm to Mackenzie Club

We awoke in the pre-dawn dark. And plodded through ankle-deep piles of oak leaves around our tents. Our headlamps picked up the yellows and browns of the fallen autumn leaves. Another stunning dawn was breaking in the Underberg.

Sterkfontein Dam to Winterton

After a night of sleeping in the sprint position so I could wake up every hour and run to the portaloos, I started today feeling understandably anxious. The prospect of 122km with the squirts wasn’t filling me with my usual enthusiasm for a day on the bike.

Heidelberg to Frankfort

Today (Friday) was a transit day too, of sorts. The first 115km stage of the race is traditionally a ‘neutral’ stage, where your time doesn’t count for much and the emphasis is on cruising out of Gauteng and experiencing Free State hospitality up close.

Sea Point to Johannesburg

Yesterday (Thursday) was awesome. On so many levels. And we didn’t even step on a pedal. It was a transit day. Where Andrew and I started our trek to Jozi for the start of the 9-day Old Mutual Joberg2C. Day 0.

I’m home alone. Desperately trying to pack my bag for another multi-stage mountain bike race. Only this time I’ve got to bring everything except my riding kit. What? Yes, true to form my Old Mutual JoBerg2C partner Andrew and I have left a few things to the last minute. One of them is our apparel. A rather essential part of a 9-day cycling expedition. According to Andrew it’s all under control, dude. And awaits us at the start in Johannesburg…

I’m often amazed at how I get out of precarious situations on the bike.

On Saturday 7th July Teach2Fish visited Ilitha to see the new school buildings and to plant trees in memory of our dear friend Dave Eadie who tragically past away a year ago.

Go Gather is a fresh little passion project of the Green Renaissance team. We ventured out into nature and stumbled upon little treasures; we found fresh food, moments, memories and an all round good time with good friends. The best part is we didn’t find joy at the extreme expense of nature…we actually found it alongside nature.

This little video was born out of the spirit of spontaneity and the result was a good time with good food.
