Coaching: Albert takes over from Elvin

The Club announced today that Albert van Zyl has been appointed as the new NBMC running coach with effect from 1 February 2013.

Albert will be taking over from Elvin van Zyl, who will be scaling down and focus more on his own running. Elvin, no relation to Albert, has been the NBMC coach since 2011.

Albert started his athletics career, at an early age, in 1994. After school he picked up the pace – and then some - and clocked very fast times over 10km (30:14), half marathons (1:09:34), marathons (2:21:55) and the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon (3:13:13). He was equally quick on the track, boasting personal best times of 3:42 over 1500m, 8:51 in the 3000m steeple chase and 14:58 in the 5000m.

While primarily a road runner, Albert is all too aware of the importance and enjoyment of cross country, and will be working hard, he says, to motivate members to participate in these events, on a regular basis.
