Club honours Naas & Wim

Honorary membership was bestowed on two members of the New Balance Canoe Club (formerly known as the Harmony Canoe Club). Congratulations to Naas Fisher and Wim Malan on being recognised by their fellow club mates and paddlers.
Naas Fisher

Starting his paddling career in 1985 at the age of 31, Naas has successfully completed an impressive 12 Berg-, 20 Breede-, 4 Dusi-, 9 Fish River- and 3 Umkomaas River Canoe Marathons. One can imagine that there were many special moments, but to Naas, three stood out. The first is the fact that he managed to successfully complete 12 consecutive Berg River Canoe Marathons, the second was when he successfully completed his 20th Breede River Canoe Marathon and his son, Le Sueur, and lastly when he, as SA Marathon Chairman, read out his daughter’s name, Niki name as part of the SA Junior Team.

Naas’s role as administrator is equally impressive. He is the current President of Canoe South Africa, former Chairman of WP Canoe Union and founder member and Chairman of the Harmony Canoe Club (now New Balance Canoe Club). Says Naas: “None of these were planned, it just happened”. In addition to this, he organised the World Marathon Championships in 1998.
Naas is very positive about the future of our club. He believes the future will depend on the success of its development programme for juniors. He is very confident that, under the leadership of the current club chairman and WP Junior Organiser, Henk Roux and junior coach, Heinie Bosman, the development of our juniors will be very successful.
