What a great month we had weather-wise. We definitely need the rain, but it is so nice to run in cold and dry conditions, but I must admit I love those runs in the mountain in the drizzling rain. I’m changing the Weekly Trail Run time again, due to people not making it in time for the run. We will start at 17h45 promptly and from now on I will follow the “No light No run” rule, as we will be running for at least 30 minutes in the dark. Once again, when Mother Nature is not playing along I will post on Facebook and the Trail Running Notice board on our website that the run is cancelled. My most important task of the month is to appoint some Vice Captains to help me out with the Trail Runs. The first of my Vice Captains is a fairly obvious, Marinda Lindeque. Marinda will be the Durbanville Hills Run guru from now on, so if you need to know where the Merlot vineyards are, just ask Marinda. Some more appointments will follow soon. Please congratulate and give your support to our Vice Captains.

The program for the month of June 2013:

Trail Race of the month. I have decided to do away with the Trail Race of the month option as there are so many races to choose from and some do not cater for all fitness levels. Make sure that you visit for a list of most trail races. We are also not allowed to pitch our club gazebo at most of these races, which make point of gathering difficult.

Monthly Trail Pack Run. Due to the fact that we are doing away with the “Trail Race of the month” concept, I am forced to introduce more “Trail Pack Runs”. This month there will be 3 Trail Pack Runs. On 9 June we will explore the Mountains in Jonkershoek, on 16 June we will explore Table Mountain and on 23 June we will go back to the Paarl Rock. All of the runs will cater for 2 groups as usual. Make sure you take all emergency equipment and enough dry clothes for after the run. On 23 June, weather permitting, we will do a “skottel” breakfast at the Paarl Mountain parking area.

For all pack runs you have to take at least 1 – 2 litres of water and a wind jacket and a Buff or beanie. You should always have a small emergency bag with a space blanket and strapping etc. Never go into the mountains on your own or when the weather is foul. For this reason we have pack runs to cater for fit and unfit, so do join us to enjoy the beauty of our mountains.

Weekly Trail Runs. We will still be running at our 4 venues, and seeing that you need a permit for Majik Forest, we will not be running there anymore. We will also only cater for 2 groups, as the slow group never had more than 1 person. Please note, dogs are not allowed at the weekly runs, sorry!

Week 1 – Wednesday 5 June 2013 at Altydgedacht Wine Estate.

Week 2 – Wednesday 12 June 2013 at Bloemendal Wine Estate.

Week 3 – Wednesday 19 June 2013 at Durbanville Hills Wine Estate.

Week 4 – Wednesday 26 June 2013 at Bellville Golf Course.

This month we will have a social Pizza evening with a talk about equipment etc. after the Bellville Golf Course. Detail to follow.

Durbanville Hills Wine Farm, where we run on Wednesdays is having a Trail Run and Soup Weekend this coming weekend. The trail run take place on Saturday afternoon at 17h00. Please support them as they support us. For more info click here.
